It’s December 2012, and a few people think this might be the last month EVER. What do you think?

I’m the kind of person who worries a little bit about this stuff. Not that I’m too terrified about the world ending. I’ve read my Bible. Things are going to change eventually. I’m okay with that. (Not that my opinion could make a difference.) My biggest fear lately has been that if the world ends on December 21, I will have been working so much, I won’t have enjoyed my last few days here. I don’t even know where I’ve put my bucket list. It’s somewhere in my Facebook history…

A student told me today that he was going to England on December 21st.  And he  followed it up with, “That’s the day the world’s going to end.” My first impulse was to make a joke, but not everyone appreciates my weird sense of humor. So I told this sweet little eleven-year old that the world probably wasn’t going to end on that day and to say “Hi” to the Queen for me. His huge brown eyes sparkled with relief, and that made me think he might have been more worried than he was letting on. (And I was very thankful I nixed the joke idea.)

So what do you think about all this talk about the world ending? If it were to end tonight, do you know where you’d be next?

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”  (Jesus–Mark 13:31-33
