Nine movies received enough first place votes to land themselves on the ballot for Best Picture at the Oscars this year. I’ve seen four of them. I’d planned to see all nine, but reality’s knocking on my schedule, and I’m realizing there’s just not enough “reviewer” blood in me to get me to sit through Amour or Beasts of the Southern Wild. And maybe they’re really good, but I just can’t do it.
Django Unchained (which is a huge stretch for me because Tarantino is NOT my favorite) is still on my “to watch” list. Lincoln (yes, I know. I live in the city where it was filmed. It’s a crime I haven’t seen it yet) and Zero Dark Thirty (which completely doesn’t appeal to me) are still on my list too, so seven out of the nine should be good. And I still stretch myself a little (meeting my new year’s resolution to push toward new horizons).
How many of these movies have you seen? What’s your favorite?
I didn’t go to the movies this week. A mixture of bad weather and business kept me away, so no review today. Instead, I want to encourage you to cast your ballot for this year’s Oscars.
I fixed up a little survey to see who would get our votes. I’ll compile the results and report them on the Friday before the Oscars, February 22, 2013. So take about five minutes to plug in your answers! You be the judge for a change!
