Life keeps chipping away at my hope. This past week, I rushed forward when I should have hit pause. Someone requested an online job interview, and I jumped on it despite the feeling of something not being right. After the interviewer asked me about my bank account for the second time, I conceded to being on the line with a criminal. Ugh.

While messaging with the criminal, I googled whether or not my computer could be hacked via a chat window. I found a forum where someone asked the same question. They had been chatting with a complete strange because they had gotten so lonely, they needed to talk to someone—anyone.

I suppose a lot of people might feel lonely right now, and that got me thinking.

Someone to Care

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were someone we could talk to anytime of the day or night? Someone we could pour out our hearts to and they wouldn’t judge us or laugh at us or unfriend us. They would listen and care.1

Wouldn’t it be beautiful if this someone would not only listen, but if they would also give us some direction, help us figure things out? If they would offer clarity, but not smother us with do’s and don’ts?2

And then after we’d talked our hearts out and they’d listened and we’d listened, we could laugh and go for a walk or watch the sun set or the storm roll in? We could just enjoy life without all the scary stuff and sadness and sickness.3

But when the bad stuff did find us, wouldn’t it be the best thing ever if this person understood our fear and sorrow and walked with us through it?4

And maybe it’s too much to hope for, but wouldn’t it be absolutely perfect if this person would love us—love us through and through and never leave us or forsake us, but always be on our side?5

All-powerful, All-knowing, All-loving

While I’m dreaming here, let me go a step further and wonder what it would be like if this person were super powerful and famous—and even rich. What if this super amazing person who had everything and could do anything, looked through the crowd and locked eyes with you and with me, smiled, and nodded for us to come? Can you imagine?6

And what if this person actually held the keys of death and could promise us life—real life, a life that would never end, a life filled with love, joy, peace, and more?7

People will fail us. They will lie and not answer when we call. And we will feel like failures—stupid for our mistakes and frustrated at our lack of progress, but the truth is, we—that’s you and me—are known by God.

There is Someone.

He’s not as far away as you might think. Seek Him, and He will be found. You are loved.8

Thanks for reading. Can you think of another “wouldn’t-it-be-nice” phrase?
