I just got around to seeing Argo last weekend. I loved it! It was so good I almost dragged my daughter to the theatre when we were off from school this week, so I could see it again.
It gets a “7.5” on my 1 to 10 scale. That’s saying something. You might not know this, but I don’t give out “7’s” easily. Most movies get a “5” or lower.
Argo was brilliant, though. Ben Affleck should definitely get an Oscar nod. It’s not often I’m sitting on the edge of my seat when I already know how the movie’s going to end. That’s skill, right there. Not only good writing, but great directing too (maybe two Oscar nods for Mr. Affleck).
Normally, I’d bark about the 25+ uses of the “f” word, but at least they had some value in this movie (if my least favorite word can have value). Even when it was thrown around in reference to the script “Argo—-“, it didn’t seem nearly as offensive as EVERY Judd Apatow movie I’ve ever seen.
The script (the real one, not the fake one) came off as being intelligent, fairly accurate (though I’m really no judge. I was but a wee one when all of this happened!), and entertaining. I laughed. I shed a few tears, and I crushed my box of Milk Duds during that plane scene.
At the end of the movie, after I (and several other people) stopped clapping, the greatness just continued. Stay for the credits. There’s a few extras tacked onto them that highlight the attention to detail in the movie.
One last note, I appreciated how the movie didn’t paint the U.S. as being perfect. The leader’s of our country did things that certainly didn’t help the situation in Iran, and I think it’s good to be reminded of the kind of chain reaction that can be set in motion from one decision. And it’s also good to know just how awesome Canada can be! Yea Canada!
Although it wasn’t my normal favorite (action-adventure), I’d see it again. Check out Argo and let me know what you think!
