My vocabulary isn’t that impressive. Really. Sometimes I even DON’T use a word because I’m not sure how to spell it, and I’m too lazy to spell check.
That line from Princess Bride often plays in my head, “I do not think that word means what you think it means.” Just ask my editor. She’s often sending me little notes. “This word means, ‘blah, blah, blah.’ Is that really what you wanted to say?” Oops…
So, I thought it would be good to try to grow my vocabulary. You know, learn new words and use them correctly, and if I happen to make a few points along the way, then so be it. Everything’s a teachable moment, right? (Just as a side note, you probably shouldn’t depend on this list for your SAT’s.)
Here are a few of the words I’ve looked at so far. Check them out, even if you do already know what they mean. Maybe you’ll be surprised!
